Recruiting New Members

It's fascinating detective work, fun and very rewarding. Fancy giving it a try? Then read on!

Research and recruitment is being driven by Jim MacIntyre. Membership has increased 61% to 350 since December 2008 in sharp contract to prior years. In all we have over 4,083 names of ex-Warsash personnel on our database. Clearly there is massive potential to greatly increase membership. If only 50% of online members achieve one recruit each that means 128 new members! Several members have already brought in many newcomers.

Our target is to beat the 99 new members who joined in 2009. Already we've had 25 new joiners in 2010.

Can you spare some time to trace your former Warsash colleagues? You may not have seen them since your cadet course, or you may have come across them or heard about their location whilst at sea or since coming ashore. Any little clue can eventually lead to tracing someone.

Recruitment's an easy sell! With hardly an exception people when located are very grateful and keen to join the association.

One excellent approach is to run your own mini-recruitment project focusing on those in your cadet term as Alan Jordan 1955 is doing. Here are some suggestions if you want to help expand our network of contacts.
  • Use your cadet year end graduation photo as the start point for your research, tracing and contacting others in the same term as you at Warsash.
  • Hunt out material from your Warsash days e.g. photos, back copies of All Hands (some available here >> Journals).
  • Search telephone directories e.g. BT ; Yellow and White Pages (incl. Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, South Africa and many other countries).
  • Visit the Recruitment Team and post messages as you go in the sub-forum Recruitment leaving names and information about potential new members for others to see.
  • Identify external journals which may be prepared to include details about the WA and websites which may be willing to insert a reciprocal link (email to webdirector@warsashassociaton.net).
Here are some examples of current research activities.
  • Jim MacIntyre is continuing to leave messages on Friends Reunited.
  • Jim has made contact with Nigel King 1968 in Gt. Missenden UK, who we hope will be joining soon.
  • Neil Martin 1959 is coordinating tracking down Trevor Judd - reportedly in Adelaide area.
  • Alan Jordan 1955 is continuing his work on the names for his class Photo and pursuing and providing other leads - great results achieved already.
  • Denis Mason 1945 is following up in NZ with Basil Irwin 1948 (from Alan Jordan)
  • John Downs 1949 is following up in UK with Stan Conyers 1949 and Vince Moorman 1955 (from Alan Jordan)
  • John Downs and Neil Martin are following up on Howard Roper 1950 in Australia (contact through FR)
  • Nigel Combes 1957 has request any information about Len Bainton
If you would like to help the recruitment campaign please let Jim MacIntyre know and keep him informed.

Kind regards,

Chris Clarke 1959
